Event Description
We were testing 300 ft of 5 inch hose using (information witheld)hose tester. We use a small section of 2 1/2 in hose so we do not have to attach the 5 in directly to the the hose tester. The pressure was just approaching the test pressure of 225 psi when the 2 1/2 in hose separated from the coupling. This caused the section of 5 in to move approximately 20 feet striking a firefighter and knocking him off his feet.
Lesson Learned
Station duties can be dangerous. The pressures achieved during hose testing exceed normal fireground testing. Always be aware of where the hose is compared to your location.
