Event Description

While driving the first due Quint to report of structure in a trailer park, I was approaching an intersection with a four lane highway. With a green light in my favor for several hundred feet, I saw a police car proceed through the intersection with emergency lights on. The police car was traveling at approximately 75mph through a red light. Thinking that another police car may be following the first, I approached the intersection with caution. I slowed and stopped as I entered the intersection all the while having the green light in my favor. There was another police car following the first at approximately the same speed and not stopping for his red light. As he saw me stop one lane into the intersection, he swerved and began fishtailing and missed the front of my truck by about one foot. He subsequently lost control and struck a light-weight light pole on the opposite side of the four lane highway. He was not injured but was upset and did not want our help. We continued to the structure fire after checking on his status. The fire was very minor and we never heard from the police department. It was a [rank deleted] who was following the first police car responding to a different call than we were responding to. Lesson Learned

We were extremely lucky that the police car was able to avoid us. We stopped for a green light and were almost struck by a police car proceeding through a red light at approximately 75 mph. I never saw the police again after this accident. They never spoke to us about it and probably never mentioned a fire truck in their report.
