Event Description
I was responding as the driver to an EMS call on an ambulance. Part way through the response, a police car ran "interference" for us. They stopped at each intersection to stop traffic so we could pass through. Our SOP was to stop at each intersection but I felt that this was unnecessary due to the police presence. We were involved in a minor collision with the police car. Fortunately, there was no injury, only minor property damage.
Lesson Learned
Don't allow police to run "interference." We were not trained to do so and it was not our standard operating procedure. I feel that the police caused danger to us because of the high speeds they traveled at trying to pass us and stop at the next intersection.
